Nintendo Direct September 2026: Zelda 40th Anniversary Dates and What to Expect

Nintendo just turned next week into a two-day event. First, The Legend of Zelda takes the spotlight for its 40th anniversary. One day later, Nintendo returns with a 45-minute Direct focused on Nintendo Switch 2 games coming this winter. Two broadcasts, two days, and plenty of room for surprises.

Two Nintendo Directs, two different missions

The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct

The first presentation airs on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. BRT. Nintendo says the roughly 30-minute broadcast will share a variety of information connected to the series’ 40th anniversary. The details are on the official Zelda Direct page.

One day later, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Nintendo returns at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. BRT with an approximately 45-minute presentation focused on Nintendo Switch 2 games coming this winter. You can check the official Nintendo Direct announcement for the details.

And one more thing: Nintendo Treehouse: Live

After the September 9 Direct, Nintendo Treehouse: Live will follow with gameplay from selected titles shown in the presentation. Nintendo has not announced the Treehouse runtime yet, so that part stays a bonus round with no timer.

What are we hoping to see?

Nintendo has not named a single Zelda announcement yet, which leaves plenty of room to dream. A remake, a remaster, an anniversary collection, new amiibo, or a completely unexpected surprise would all be welcome. None of that is confirmed, but we can still hope Nintendo has a few surprises waiting for us.

Why Zelda’s 40th anniversary is a big deal

The original The Legend of Zelda launched in Japan on February 21, 1986, for the Family Computer Disk System. Nintendo’s own Zelda history page confirms the date, so 2026 officially marks four decades of dungeons, suspicious walls, musical instruments, and very important treasure chests.
