Nintendo Direct, Nintendo Switch 2, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby

Nintendo turned September 8 and 9 into two very different kinds of hype: a 40th-anniversary return to Hyrule, followed by a packed look at what is next for Nintendo Switch 2. The biggest beats are easy to remember. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time arrives November 5, Monster Hunter Wilds lands December 4, Metroid Ravenous follows on January 28, and Kirby begins a new 3D adventure in spring 2027.
If you followed the schedule with us, our Nintendo Direct September 2026 preview has the setup for both broadcasts. Now that the presentations are over, here is the short version of everything worth keeping on your radar.
Nintendo Direct September 2026: the biggest announcements
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy arrives November 12, 2026.
Monster Hunter Wilds comes to Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026, and a new Massive Expansion is also on the way.
Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D Metroid adventure, launches January 28, 2027.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition arrives February 25, 2027.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches April 8, 2027, while Persona 4 Revival follows on May 20.
Kirby and the World Beyond brings Kirby back to 3D in spring 2027.
September 8: Zelda celebrates 40 years with a major comeback
The Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct put one announcement at the center of the celebration: Ocarina of Time is being rebuilt for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo confirmed overhauled visuals, symphonic music, refreshed controls and camera movement, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue and a microphone feature that lets players hum learned melodies for Link to play on his ocarina.
The celebration stretches well beyond the remake. A Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 system, themed controllers and a carrying case launch October 29. New amiibo, ZELDA NOTES features and a global concert tour are planned, while the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie opens worldwide on April 30, 2027. Nintendo’s official Zelda anniversary recap has the full list.

September 9: Switch 2 fills its winter and spring calendar
Day two moved fast. Monster Hunter Wilds and its upcoming Massive Expansion led the winter lineup, while Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy added voice commands and new score-based Dandori challenges. Then came Metroid Ravenous, where Samus explores a hostile underground world and uses Metroid powers to drain enemies, and Kirby and the World Beyond, a new 3D adventure built around free exploration and Copy Abilities.
RPG fans had plenty to save too. Nintendo confirmed the remake-series conclusion Final Fantasy VII Revelation, along with Persona 6 and Persona 4 Revival for Nintendo Switch 2. The show also included Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition, which brings smoother performance, higher-resolution visuals, the Expansion Pass content and a new Calamity Mode.
The official Nintendo Direct page also confirmed more from Professor Layton, Pokémon Pokopia, Yo-kai Watch 2, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. A free Mario Kart World update was released the same day.
