Marvel’s Wolverine Release Date, Gameplay & PS5 Pre-Orders

Marvel’s Wolverine finally has a confirmed release date, and the latest State of Play gave fans a much clearer look at what to expect from Insomniac Games’ new PS5 action-adventure game.

The game is set to launch on September 15, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5, with pre-orders now available. After years of anticipation, Wolverine fans finally have new gameplay, story details, character reveals and edition information to dig into.

New Gameplay Revealed During State of Play

The new Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay focused on fast, brutal and close-range combat.

Wolverine can stalk enemies, ambush targets, attack from above and tear through Reavers with his adamantium claws. The combat shown during State of Play looks much more violent and aggressive than Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, which makes sense for Logan’s character.

The reveal also introduced special combat moves called Techniques, including attacks like Tornado Spin and Bull Rush. These moves help Wolverine overpower enemies during intense fights and create more variety in combat.

Another important mechanic is Rage. Successful attacks, parries and kills build Logan’s Rage, which can be used for stronger attacks or to activate his Healing Factor when he takes heavy damage.

If Rage goes far enough, Logan can unleash Rage Tier 3, a more stylized and savage combat state inspired by Marvel Comics’ Black, White, and Blood series.

Jean Grey, Team X and the Fight Against the Reavers

The State of Play also revealed more about the story and the role of other mutants.

Jean Grey appears as a powerful telekinetic and an important ally for Logan. In the gameplay reveal, she is shown fighting alongside him against Trask’s forces, using her powers to create opportunities for Wolverine to land Critical Strikes.

The story also brings Logan back to Team X, a mutant task force facing one of its darkest moments. According to the official setup, mutants are living in fear while the rest of society remains mostly unaware of the danger they are facing.

This gives Marvel’s Wolverine a darker and more emotional tone, with themes of identity, loyalty, survival and Logan’s violent past.

Locations Confirmed for Marvel’s Wolverine

Marvel’s Wolverine will take players through multiple locations around the world.

Confirmed locations include Canada, Japan and Madripoor, the Marvel island nation often connected to crime, underground networks and mutant stories.

These settings suggest the game will have a strong cinematic feel, moving from frozen wilderness areas to narrow city streets and darker urban districts.

Highway Combat and Cinematic Action Set Pieces

One of the biggest gameplay highlights from State of Play was a highway action sequence.

During this set piece, Wolverine fights across moving vehicles, attacks trucks, slashes tires and throws enemies off the road. He also jumps between vehicles while fighting Reavers and stronger enemies, including Brutes.

This kind of sequence makes Marvel’s Wolverine look like a very streamable game, especially for players who enjoy cinematic action, intense combat and big gameplay moments that are easy to clip for YouTube, TikTok or Shorts.

Villains and Character Teases

The Reavers are one of the main enemy factions shown so far, with Bolivar Trask positioned as a central threat behind the mutant kidnappings.

The trailer also teased more enemies, suits, factions and characters still to be revealed. One of the biggest teases points toward Sabretooth, one of Wolverine’s most iconic rivals.

That alone should keep Marvel fans paying close attention as PlayStation and Insomniac share more updates before launch.
